Amusing Links of the Day

Some more links to amuse you:

  • How do you fight crime and convince unruly urban residents to behave? According to The New York Times, a former Bogota mayor found the perfect solution: Bring in the mimes!
  • Who should take Jack Ryan's place as the Republican Senate candidate here in Illinois? According to Gapers Block (found via Susan), some people think they've found the perfect candidate: Mike Ditka! (Update: according to K.C. Johnson at Cliopatria), Ditka's wife doesn't want him to run: "If he decides to do it, I'd divorce him.")
  • The 2004 election campaign is proving to be historic: never before have journalists paid more attention to a candidate's hair than to his wife. (Meanwhile, Slate explains how you, too, can have teeth as nice as John Kerry's.)

I'll post more on Sunday, I think.

I usually don't approve of comment spam (and I often delete it when I see it), but I think I'll make an exception this time: after all, the comment above refers to a web page that fits the "amusing link" theme of my post.

I don't mean to suggest that the Jack Ryan case was completely straightforward or that his treatment was totally fair. I just find it amusing to see a website hailing the "integrity and vision" of a candidate as sleazy and uninspired as Ryan. (And when I refer to sleaze, I'm not just talking about the divorce case, which should have remained private.)

Every time I close the door on reality it comes in through the windows.
